The company "European Travel Insurance" (ERV, Kyiv) in 2017 increased the number of insured tourists by 31.27% compared to 2016, insuring 749.1 thousand tourists traveling abroad and 86.6 thousand tourists traveling in Ukraine.
As reported in the insurer's press release, the number of tourists traveling abroad increased by 30.1%, and those traveling in Ukraine - by 42.53%.
The most popular destinations in 2017 were: Turkey, Egypt, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Spain, Greece, UAE and Thailand.
During the year, the company registered 10,617 thousand insured events worth 56 million 658 thousand UAH with tourists abroad and 73 insurance events in Ukraine for the amount of UAH 143 thousand. In total, 116 major insurance events were recorded in 2017, and the total amount of payments for them amounted to more than UAH 18 million.
The number of reported insurance events involving tourists in 2017 increased by 31% compared to 2016. The company received the largest number of applications from Turkey (47% or 4,997 thousand cases), Egypt was in second place in terms of the number of applications (21% or 2,252 thousand cases).
The company reports that in 95% of cases, tourists required outpatient care. The average cost of an outpatient case abroad in 2017 was 100 euros.
In 321 cases, tourists needed urgent inpatient treatment, the average cost of which was 1.5 thousand euros. In 2017, ERV settled 22 fatal cases, in 17 of which the insurance company organized the repatriation of the body to Ukraine, and in 4 cases the relatives of the insured person independently organized the repatriation of the body and will receive reimbursement for the costs incurred from the insurance company.
In one fatal case, the company refused, since the cause of the insured person's death was the use of narcotic substances and concomitant diseases - AIDS and tuberculosis. Also last year, there was one case in which it was necessary to organize and pay for the medical evacuation of a tourist. The average cost of services for organizing and paying for medical evacuation of tourists or repatriation of bodies in cases of fatal outcome for the company was 3 thousand euros.
The largest amounts of tourists' expenses in 2017, in the amount of the full insured amount of 30 thousand euros, were covered by ERV: on the occasion of a fatal heart attack in Switzerland and on the occasion of a stroke with inpatient treatment in Germany.
