From January 1, 2025, significant changes came into force in Ukraine in the system of compulsory third-party liability insurance of vehicle owners (OSCPV, or "autocivilka"). These changes are aimed at strengthening the protection of victims of road accidents, improving the quality of insurance services, and adapting the system to European standards.

Main changes:

  • Increase in insurance payments:The maximum payments for damage to life and health have increased from 320,000 to 500,000 hryvnias, and for property damage - from 160,000 to 250,000 hryvnias. This means that victims of road accidents will receive more compensation.
  • Individual approach to calculating the cost of the policy:Insurance companies have gained more freedom in forming the cost of policies. Now the price of insurance will depend on the driver's individual history: number of accidents, driving experience, type of car, etc. Drivers with a flawless driving record can expect discounts, while those who have been in multiple accidents will pay more.
  • Abolition of deductible:You will no longer have to pay a certain part of the insurance payment yourself.
  • Increased liability of insurers:Insurers will be required to process insurance payments faster and more efficiently, as well as provide better customer service.
  • Increased payments under the Europrotocol:The maximum amount of payment under the Europrotocol has increased and is now equal to the maximum insured amount.
  • Reimbursement without taking into account wear and tear:This means that you will be reimbursed the cost of a new part, even if your damaged part has had some wear and tear.
  • Payment for repairs at a service station:The insurance company organizes repairs at authorized service stations, which is convenient for the owner auto.
  • Mandatory direct settlement of damages for all insurance companies.This means that after an accident you do not need to contact the at-fault party's insurance company. It is enough to contact your insurance company with which you have a CPL contract and receive compensation.

Why are these changes important?

  • Greater protection for victims:Increasing insurance payments and simplifying the procedure for receiving compensation will allow victims to recover their losses faster.
  • Fairer insurance price: The cost of the policy will be more in line with the individual risks of each driver.
  • A higher level of service:Insurance companies will be forced to improve the quality of their services in order to attract and retain customers.

What do drivers need to know?

  • Compare offers:Before concluding a contract, be sure to compare offers from different insurance companies.
  • Pay attention to additional services:Some insurance companies offer additional services, such as car towing, legal assistance etc.
  • Save all documents: Save all documents related to insurance for future use.
  • Read the terms of the contract: Read the terms of the insurance contract carefully before signing it.
