A car policy, known as Autocivilka, is required for every vehicle owner. This is civil insurance, without which it is completely prohibited by law to hit the road. Standard insurance is for a year, but what if you need a short-term document? And also, how to extend it, if necessary? Let's understand the terms of validity and registration of the Motor Third Party Liability Insurance:
The MTPL must be valid for the driver all year round. The only situation when the Motor Third Party Liability Insurance is not valid is when traveling outside Ukraine. Other countries have their own, general insurance system, the Green Card. It is usually purchased for 15 days or 1 month — depending on the duration of the trip. But the Civil Insurance, in order not to constantly mess with documents, is taken for a whole year at once. The main thing is not to forget to extend it or buy a new one.
Are there short-term insurances? Yes, this policy can be taken out for only 15 days, but if there is a confirmed need. This type of document is issued for vehicles that have arrived in Ukraine for a short period of time. As well as for cars that have not yet been registered. Until this vehicle is registered — he will have short-term insurance.
For all other motorists who do not fall into these two categories - the minimum term of the Motor Third Party Liability Insurance may be only 6 months. Why buy it if you can immediately take it for 12 months? Such a need may arise if you buy a new policy at the end of the year, and at the beginning of the next - the insurance conditions will change. Yes, over time, the maximum amounts of damage coverage are now increasing.
You can extend the OSCPV in advance: do this on the insurance company's website or in the office. You just need to submit the same package of documents, request an extension and indicate the exact date of the policy's expiration. Some companies, in order to improve sales, themselves remind customers with messages or calls that the document is expiring. This way they don't lose customers and they apply for such insurance again.
Does it make sense to extend the policy? It all depends on the changes in the terms of the contract. If you don't buy new insurance, but extend the old one, then the terms remain the same. And a lot can change in a year: the reputation of the insurance company, the algorithm for providing services. Also, the amount of maximum loss coverage changes. The first increase will be in 2020. If earlier payments amounted to 100 thousand hryvnias for damage to transport and 200 thousand for the lives of victims, then next year it will be 500 thousand hryvnias to cover transport damage and 1 million in compensation to injured participants in the accident. Given this, it makes sense to take out a new policy on more favorable terms. Especially if the driver drives in large cities, where the old limit for car repairs is usually not enough.
Be able to identify a reliable insurance company. To do this, study ratings, payment statistics, read customer reviews on independent resources and get information from other drivers. Also, check the company's documents: who registered it and when, whether there were any scandals with its participation before, whether there is a license that allows you to sell insurance.
Follow the news. It is not necessary to constantly read the news about changes in car insurance rules. But it is worth giving it enough time before buying or extending the OSCPV for a year. Suddenly the rules just come into force and it makes sense to conclude a new contract.
Know exactly what conditions different companies offer, how they differ and whether they are suitable for you. Until the new laws come into force, you can additionally buy an extended civil liability policy in addition to the Autocivilka. It allows you to expand the maximum amount of payments at your discretion. Yes, you can choose insurance and an additional document for 6 months, and then, in order not to overpay, buy a policy with new limits.
