All car owners know that it is mandatory to draw up a «Autocivilka». But how to choose the right document, they begin to understand only over time. Before they gain experience: they overpay for the service or, conversely, save to their detriment. They go to buy a paper policy instead of an electronic one and follow the recommendations of insurance representatives who have their own interest in sales. In order to immediately understand and choose a useful document at the best price, you need to know the answers to the questions:
This document is called OSCPV, but it is more often called «autocivilka» in the people. Because, they buy a policy for transport, but at the same time it insures not this transport, but liability. The liability of the person who will be driving the car. And the person who may cause an accident in which other cars or people will suffer.
Why did you come up with this type of insurance? For example, you are the owner of the car. Another car crashed into this vehicle. And the driver who damaged your car - has no money for repairs. Court proceedings and gradual payments begin. At this rate, due to the carelessness of another person, the car will be under repair for a long time. To prevent this from happening - the state obliges to insure liability. It works according to the following scheme: the car owner buys insurance from a company for a certain period of time. And if during this period an accident occurs due to his fault - the company must cover the damages instead of the client.
Since this type of insurance is required to be issued by the state — there are certain benefits from it. Some drivers are provided with a discount of half the cost, and some are completely exempt from the need to purchase a document.
A 50% discount on the OSCPV is required to be issued to the following categories: pensioners, disabled people of group II. Those who have a Chernobyl certificate of category I or II and war participants.
And the following are exempt from civil liability: participants in hostilities (with a UBD certificate), disabled people of group I (who drive transport independently), disabled people of war. They do not need to take out insurance at all. If an accident occurs due to the fault of privileged categories - the Motor Transport Insurance Bureau of Ukraine covers the costs instead.
In order not to save on useful insurance functions, you need to know what is included in the cost of the document. Some things are really worth paying extra for, and some — leave as is:
1. Deductible — which one to choose? This is the amount that the driver will pay himself if an accident occurs. Since by law it is not allowed to set a deductible of more than 2 thousand hryvnias — it will not hit your pocket in the event of an accident.
The cost of the document depends on the deductible: if it is zero — then the policy costs more. Since all, even the smallest expenses — are covered by the insurance company. A document with a deductible of 2 thousand is cheaper. But which one to choose?
This is the case when it is worth saving: after all, you pay steadily once a year. And, fortunately, it is not a fact that during this time one or more accidents will occur. Especially - through your fault. And, even if it happens and you slightly scratch someone else's car - it is easier to pay 2 thousand for repairs yourself than to draw up all the documents for compensation.
2. The standard document has a fixed coverage limit: 200 thousand hryvnias for damage to passengers of another car and 100 thousand hryvnias for repairs to the vehicle itself.
But there is also additional insurance to the Civil Liability Insurance: this is a separate document that expands its limit. You can increase the maximum amount of coverage, even up to 850 thousand hryvnias. Accordingly, the more the limit is expanded, the more expensive the document will be. Is it worth overpaying for it?
Only if you live in a big city where there are many foreign cars. Or you often drive on highways with cars from different cities. There is a high probability that in the event of an insured event, the limit will not be enough to cover the repair. Servicing a foreign car costs much more than 100 thousand hryvnias and it is better to expand the limit by at least another 150 thousand.
3. Paper or electronic version? Buy an electronic policy to save time and money. It costs less than a paper one and you don't have to print the document. Just keep a copy on your phone - yes, even more reliable than carrying a paper insurance policy with you, which can get lost or damaged.
4. Reliability of the company. Last but not least, you should not buy a policy from dubious, unknown, newly registered companies - just because it is cheaper there. Contact trusted companies with positive reviews about payments and choose among them by price. Then the savings will be reasonable and will not affect the quality of the insurance.
