Over the past few years, the smartphone has turned into a multifunctional personal assistant. Access to the Internet anywhere and at any time, the ability to buy things, send documents, and travel. You can even pay in supermarkets by phone. To plan a trip, one gadget with Internet access is also enough. I bought a plane ticket, travel insurance. I booked accommodation and that's it, you can go.

There are also a number of advantages for car owners. For travel, you can issue a Green Card and it will be sent by mail. And the OSCPV policy, which is valid within the country and can be purchased in electronic form and then printed out yourself.

Do you take risks by buying an electronic version of the policy? Let's break down all the nuances:

MTPL policy: why is it needed and how to apply for it

MTPL — mandatory driver's liability insurance. This is state insurance and according to the law, you cannot drive on the road without it. Why is it needed?

Liability insurance — helps the person at fault in an accident cover the costs. The insurance company compensates for damage to the car, property, life and health of the person injured in the accident. But be careful, this insurance does not apply to the vehicle of the culprit. To protect your car in such cases, you need a CASCO policy.

How to apply? You can contact the insurance company's office or apply for a policy online. You can immediately calculate the cost on the Internet.

The price will depend on:

  • Type of vehicle: motorcycle, truck or passenger car.
  • Year of manufacture of this vehicle.
  • Total duration of insurance. Usually it is issued for 1 year.
  • City of registration of the vehicle.
  • The client's driving experience also affects.
  • Deductible amount. This is the amount that you undertake to pay yourself when compensating for damages. The higher the deductible amount, the cheaper the "auto insurance".
  • Does the driver have preferential benefits? For example, discounts are provided for combatants or disabled people.
  • And, of course, from the company you apply to for insurance.

What is the difference between the electronic version?

The electronic version has its advantages, such as:

  • Time saving. You can issue a «autocivilka» without leaving home. Pay with a credit card and receive the policy to your email address in a few minutes.
  • Convenience. You can always print the electronic version, but if the paper version is lost - it is much more problematic to restore it. On the road, they asked you to present the policy, but the file with the document was lost? No problem - you can show the electronic version on your smartphone.
  • You can calculate the cost yourself. With a convenient online calculator, you can enter data and immediately see the cost of the policy. View all options and choose the optimal one.
  • As a rule, an electronic OSCPV policy costs a little less. This is due to the fact that it is also convenient for the insurance company to issue documents in this way. You don't need to rent more offices, hire more staff, spend time on processing and printing paper documents.

Fears about the electronic policy that drivers face:

  • That you will fall for scammers and the policy will turn out to be a fake. In fact, the document must be registered immediately through the database of the Motor Transport Insurance Bureau of Ukraine. You can check the status of the company on the MTIBU website before making a purchase. And after that - be safe again and enter your insurance number into the database. You will see that it is real and the validity period corresponds to reality.
  • You can be fined on the road if you don't have a paper original. Yes, such cases have happened before. This happened because all innovations in the country are accepted with difficulty. The same can be found on trains, when the controller refuses to accept an electronic ticket and demands to print it.

It is important to know: in February 2018, an order was issued by the National Financial Services Commission, which confirms the legality of the electronic policy. Based on this order, — drivers do not have the right to fine them for not having a paper original or a copy of the OSCPV. So, whether to print a paper copy or not — it's up to you.

Conclusions: which option to buy, paper or electronic?

You need to buy an OSCPV policy in any case — it will be electronic or paper. But, obviously, an electronic document has more advantages: the possibility of remote purchase, quick processing, saving the document — it is impossible to simply lose it.

What are the arguments in favor of a paper policy? Only one - you do not have the opportunity to pay with a bank card and you need to make a cash payment. But, even in this case, if you want, you can just go and transfer money through a terminal near the house.

The only difficulty that the owner of an electronic document may face is the police's deception that such a policy is invalid. But you just need to talk about the order of the National Commission for Financial Services. Knowing your rights, the driver is protected from such problems through an electronic document.

An electronic policy has more advantages than a paper one, but which one to buy - only the driver decides
