Insurance against otherworldly forces: myth or reality?

A win-win lottery

Yes, an interesting idea came to the head of the owner of an expensive optical shop on Berlin's Maasenstrasse, Anna Fleuser. In the window of her shop at the beginning of summer, she put up a poster showing a couple in swimsuits and sunglasses sitting on the beach in the pouring rain. The inscription says: There will be no sun - we will return the money!

The proposed scheme looks like this. By buying sunglasses from Anna Fleuser by the end of June, you will also receive a free policy from one of the German insurance companies. This is insurance in case of cloudy weather this summer. If there are less than 500 hours of sunshine in Berlin from the beginning of June to the end of September, buyers will be able to get their money back and keep the glasses for next summer.

Decent branded glasses are decent and cost a lot. From Prado or Versace - two hundred euros per pair or more. So buyers are delighted with the offer of the shopkeeper.

However, business is business, and in fact the risk for Anna Fleuser and the insurance company is minimal. After all, the probability that the sun will shine less than five hundred hours in four months in the summer in Berlin is practically non-existent. At least, this has not happened here for the last five or so decades.

Another insurance company headquartered in Amsterdam has gone even further. It offers citizens insurance against almost any unusual risks.

Now people can insure themselves against anything for at least 12 euros a year. For example, you ran out of the house without your keys, and the door locked. The company will definitely pay you up to 100 euros, depending on the time of day and week. And if you get stuck in an elevator, you will be compensated for lost time by paying 75 euros.

Anyone who has played the lottery at least 52 times in a year and has never won anything will receive 2,500 euros from the insurer.

Anyone who is afraid of being undeservedly behind bars can conclude an appropriate insurance contract with the company and, if this happens, receive compensation in the amount of 500 euros.

The company also offers to purchase an insurance policy for yourself or your friends that will protect its owner from being filmed on a hidden camera. If this happens, the victim can receive up to 1,000 euros.

"But still, the most original insurance is related to aliens from space. The insurance premium is paid if the signatory is abducted from Earth by aliens against his will, - it is written in black and white in the insurance contract. In this case, the victim will be paid 5,000 euros. However, it will be necessary to present certificates from doctors and aerospace authorities. "

If aliens eat you - the insurance doubles!

The insurance company that originated in the city of Altamont Springs (Florida) has approximately the same requirements for those abducted by aliens from space. True, this company specializes exclusively in insurance against abductions by unidentified flying objects.

The head of the unusual firm, Mike St. Lawrence, claims that it all started with an ordinary joke.

- I just wanted to make fun of those insurance companies, - he admitted, - who issue policies, being absolutely sure that they will not have to pay for them.

"Mike St. Lawrence spoke about the new initiative in a television program. However, the joke, as it turned out, was taken quite seriously. Hollywood actress Shirley MacLaine participated in the same program, who signed up for the first policy worth about eight dollars. Numerous screenwriters and other television audiences followed her example. And later even the most famous English insurance monopoly, Lloyd's, bought 36 policies. "

Soon St. Lawrence was surprised to discover that more than 5,200 people had taken out insurance against aliens, purchasing policies worth nearly $50,000.

Today's insurance terms are such that any policyholder who can provide real evidence of alien abduction can expect to receive compensation of about $12 million.

Recently, every resident of Russia has been able to obtain insurance against alien abduction from other worlds. "To apply for a policy," explain representatives of an insurance company offering its services on the Russian market, "you need to pay about $60. After that, according to the terms, you can count on compensation in the amount of $ 10 million in the event of a proven fact of your abduction by aliens, as well as a doubled premium if the aliens refused to use protective measures during sexual contact with you, you gave birth to alien offspring, or if the aliens treated the insured as a "source of food components." "The only condition for confirming an insured event is a properly completed form signed by an official representative of the alien race." By the way, the famous Russian singer Marina Khlebnikova has a similar insurance policy, issued to her a few years ago. As the singer stated in an interview, in 2001 she was pursued by a ufologist who claimed that Marina would be the first artist to be contacted by aliens.

"Khlebnikova laughed at first, but then she became scared. On the advice of a friend, she took out insurance, and her policy stated the following: If a UFO makes contact with Marina Khlibnikova in order to establish relations with terrestrial civilization, the insurance company undertakes to pay a premium of $1 million. The insurance premium was only 1 ruble, and the insurance was valid for 20 years. "
