Why you need a "Green Card" policy to travel abroad, not a Civil Liability policy

Why you need a "Green Card" policy to travel abroad, not a Civil Liability policy

The "Green Card" policy is an analogue of the Autocivilka for traveling abroad.

What you need to consider when buying a "Green Card" so that a foreign trip does not upset you with a large fine and does not cause a conflict with the police.

1. Payments are "unlimited". When traveling abroad, the "Green Card" policy insures the driver's liability to motorists from other countries by 100%. The Motor Transport Insurance Bureau fully pays compensation to foreigners after road accidents that occurred due to the fault of our drivers.

Each country has its own payment limit for the "Green Card". In EU countries, the limits are so large that they are enough to compensate for damage after any accidents. For example, in Poland, payments for car repairs can reach up to 1 million euros, and for treatment - up to 5 million euros. In the CIS countries, the limits are lower, but they are also usually enough for compensation.

According to MTIBU statistics for 2016, the average amount of payments to foreign drivers after accidents is 2,500 euros. Rarely, but still, there are "expensive" events when a 5- or 6-digit amount is needed to repair a car. Therefore, according to the law on liability insurance, drivers are required to purchase "Green Card" insurance for trips to EU and CIS countries. This means that a Green Card for your car is necessary for a visit to another country by car, motorcycle, bus or truck.

2. The cost of policies is higher than that of Avtotsivilka. The cost of the Autocivilka policy depends on the type of vehicle, its place of registration and engine capacity. The price of the "Green Card" is not affected by the engine capacity: the validity period and the country of travel play a more important role. In Western countries, there are huge limits on payments after an accident and the Motor Bureau forms a solid fund for them. Therefore, "green" policies for a visit to the EU are more expensive than for a trip to the CIS countries.

Insurance companies place special calculators on their websites to calculate the cost of policies. For example, you can find out the exact cost of a "Green Card" from different insurance companies on our website, using the appropriate calculator. The driver needs to indicate the type of vehicle, the validity period of the policy, and the country to which he is going. The convenience of the service is that it takes a few minutes to calculate. On the website you can order insurance with courier delivery.

3. The cost of "Green Card" policies is determined by the MTIBU. Such policies cost the same in insurance companies. Drivers do not receive discounts, as when buying an Autocivilka - for accident-free driving or for belonging to privileged groups or pensioners. You should not waste time searching for a company where you can buy insurance cheaper. In this case, the reliability and financial performance of the insurance company are not critical. Payments under the "Green Card" are guaranteed by the Motor Transport Insurance Bureau.

4. "Flexible" schedule. The term of validity of Autocivilka policies is 1 year. For the convenience and cost savings of drivers, "Green Cards" are available with different validity periods and prices - from 15 days to 1 year. For example, a car policy for a trip to Belarus for 3 months costs 1208 UAH, and for 1 month - 719. You should not take the most affordable 15-day policy for a long trip.

When entering the country, motorists are required to present a valid "Green Card" to customs officers. It happens that they also check the driver's insurance upon his return home. If the policy is "overdue", the police will issue a fine. In EU countries, similar fines for not having a policy are much higher than in our country (425-850 UAH). So it is wise for drivers to buy a policy for the entire duration of the trip, and not just to safely enter the desired country. Thanks to this, the trip will be conflict-free and will bring pleasant impressions.
