As reported by the Motor (Transport) Insurance Bureau of Ukraine, every tenth insurance policy (auto insurance policy) sold to motorists in Ukraine is fake. Recently, law enforcement officers exposed a group that manufactured and sold such fakes.
Olexy, a resident of Kyiv, who suffered from scammers, renews his auto insurance policy every year. But when he was applying for the policy for the last time, he was in a hurry and did not have time to stop by the insurance agency, so instead he bought the document on the street, as if from an agent. Once the man was returning home from the Carpathians, lost control and crashed into someone else's car.
«When I started calling the insurance number that was on the document, I found on the Internet that such a company does not exist at all. "Her license was taken away a long time ago," said Oleksiy Kulikov.
So the man had to repair the victim's car at his own expense. And he is not the only one who got into such a mess. According to the Motor (Transport) Insurance Bureau of Ukraine (MTSBU), every tenth civilian car in Ukraine is not genuine. Recently, law enforcement officers exposed a group that was engaged in the manufacture and sale of fakes in the territories of Kyiv, Odessa, Dnipropetrovsk, Luhansk regions, etc. During searches, several thousand forged documents were seized from the perpetrators.
The investigation is now establishing how many fakes the members of the group managed to sell. It is known that they sold such policies via the Internet or simply from their hands on the street.
According to insurers, the desire to get a policy cheaply and quickly leads people to scammers. Checking a genuine insurance policy is easy, experts say.
«When purchasing a policy, you can immediately check its validity, from your smartphone, from your computer. In particular, go directly to the MTIBU website, enter the policy number and instantly receive information,» advises the representative of the insurance company Oleksandr Melnichuk.
Also, experts say, you should ask whether the insurer properly fulfills its obligations to clients.
