All evening on May 15, Facebook actively commented on Natalia Shelestak's message about two Ukrainian climbers who needed urgent medical care and evacuation from a height of 6400 m during the conquest of Everest. And the next morning, some news media published information about this, quoting Natalia Shelestak's post.
ERV Company understands the despair of relatives, in this case Natalia Shelestak, when their loved ones are in danger, and is very glad that the boys have already been evacuated, they have been provided with medical assistance, and soon their relatives and friends will be able to hug them and hear the story of their trip firsthand. Yes, they have been through a lot, but it's good that things end well. The boys are safe, and this is the main thing, whole and almost unharmed. The wounds will heal, but in the eyes of their loved ones they will remain heroes who conquered Everest.
Since in her message Natalia Shelestak accused ERV of refusing to pay for helicopters to evacuate climbers, and after her this accusation was made on the pages of news portals, the insurance company considers it necessary to provide an explanation on this matter.
The first report of these cases was received by ERV insurance company from the rescue helicopter service on 05/15/18 at 1:11 p.m., then more detailed information was provided by the insured's satellite (via satellite communication), which was at the first base camp. Immediately after receiving the information, the insurance company guaranteed the costs of medical evacuation by helicopters within the limit of the insured amount. Each of the climbers had an ERV insurance policy for 50 thousand euros. Under the terms of the contract, 10% of the insured amount could be used for helicopter transportation, meaning that each insured person was provided with 5,000 euros for this purpose. ERV also guaranteed the costs of hospitalization for clients. However, bad weather conditions and the difficult location of the location did not allow for an immediate evacuation. According to the information received, the helicopter was on the site at the first base camp, but the weather conditions did not allow it to rise higher at that time, to where the insured were.
Without its own helicopters, the insurance company can only guarantee coverage of services provided by local rescue services and cannot influence the situation that develops in extreme conditions at an altitude of more than 5,000 meters.
The next day, 05/16/18, when weather conditions allowed, the climbers were evacuated by two helicopters.
This is not the first time that ERV has organized the evacuation of its clients from the slopes of the highest point in the world - Mount Everest. And it's a shame to realize that one word, uttered in a fit of despair, can ruin the work of a company that is always ready to help each of its clients.
