There are many reasons to travel to another country by car from Ukraine. It is convenient, profitable, and interesting. Travelers have time to see more non-touristy places outside of big cities. Choose cheap accommodation in the suburbs instead of in the center.
But for such a trip, you need to prepare your car: make sure that it has everything you need, and that the transport is suitable for long trips. Also, completely different insurance applies abroad. If you have long managed to figure out the OSCPV at home, then the foreign Green Card has its own nuances. For example, for a trip to Moldova and the rest of Europe, you can take out different policies. Also, different countries that are part of the system have their own insurance limits. We help you understand the nuances of a policy for traveling abroad:
The Green Card operates on the same principle as the "Autocivilka". But if the second is valid in Ukraine and does not apply to other countries, then the first is the opposite. For Ukrainians, this policy is valid in all countries of the system, except for Ukraine.
The scheme is the same: the car owner insures liability and if he gets into an accident abroad, the insurance company will compensate the victims for the damage. Both the first and second documents must be purchased. Without a CTPV, you cannot drive at home, and without a Green Card, you will not be allowed to enter another country.
Like the CTPV, this document does not cover the repair of the insured car. If the client gets into an accident through his own fault, he will be forced to pay for the repair himself. To insure the transport directly, and not the liability, you need to choose another policy. Namely, CASCO, with extended coverage in other countries.
In addition to cars, a Green Card must be purchased for buses, motorcycles, and additional trailers. But mopeds are an exception, they do not require insurance.
The price of this document depends on the type of transport, the period of validity of the contract, as well as the coverage area. Everything is clear with the first two points, let's analyze the last one:
There is a simplified version of the policy - Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Azerbaijan. It is valid only in these three countries and, accordingly, is cheaper. A regular policy will cost more, but it covers the territory of all member countries of the system, and there are more than 40 of them, and almost all of them can be reached from Ukraine by land transport.
The insurance also differs in the principle by which it should be chosen. This is even simpler than with OSTSPV. All reliable companies that have the right to sell such a document are in the database of the Motor Transport Insurance Bureau of Ukraine. There are only 10 of them, so it is easy to check the insurance company before buying a document.
Another distinctive feature: coverage limits. In the "Autocivilka" they are fixed for the entire country. And in the Green Card - they are set separately for each of the countries included in the system.
In addition, the "Autocivilka" is usually issued for a year at once. But it makes sense to buy a Green Card for 15 days or a month. Why? It costs more, but you are unlikely to plan to travel abroad all year round. The most profitable thing is to buy a short-term document for the duration of the trip, with a small margin of days.
In different countries of the Green Card system, the amount is different. The difference is significant and can reach millions of euros.
Minimum insurance limits in countries such as: Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Azerbaijan. Accordingly, we can conclude that the limits affect the cost of insurance. Since in these countries they range from 3 to 10 thousand euros, it is cheaper to insure.
In other countries, the coverage amounts are much higher. The gap in amounts is large: from 100 thousand euros to 5 million, but the cost of insurance is set at one. The exact amounts may change. Before you set off, you can separately look at the limits of the countries you are going to visit.
To know for sure whether you have not fallen for scammers, it is better to immediately check the authenticity and relevance of the Green Card. To do this, go to the MTIBU database and enter the insurance number or vehicle number. You will be shown information about the status of the policy and its validity period. Make sure that the document is issued specifically for your car and that the validity period is indicated correctly.
If you forgot to check, ask at the border that a representative of the border service check the insurance through their database. It is better to know immediately that something went wrong than to discover the lack of valid insurance after an accident. In this case, you can always buy a new document right at the border.
